Downtown DC moves fast. Between the morning commute, back-to-back meetings and a quick lunch break, a good cup of coffee close to the office makes a real difference. Coffee Republic has two cafés a short walk apart in the heart of downtown: one on Franklin Park and one right at the Metro Center station. Here’s what to know about the neighborhood and where to find us.
Franklin Park: downtown’s backyard
Franklin Park sits between 13th, 14th, I and K Streets NW, a few blocks from the White House. After more than a year of reconstruction, the park reopened in September 2021 with a restored fountain, wider paths, more seating, new trees and a children’s garden. It is managed through a partnership between the DC government, the National Park Service and the DowntownDC Business Improvement District, and it has become one of the best places downtown to sit outside on a nice day.
Coffee Republic Franklin Park is on the corner of 14th and I Street NW, right across from the park and steps from the McPherson Square Metro station (Blue, Orange and Silver lines). Big windows and park views make it an easy place to start the day, reset between meetings or grab something to take on a walk around the fountain.
Metro Center: coffee at the top of the escalator
Metro Center is where the Red, Blue, Orange and Silver lines meet, so a huge share of downtown commuters pass through it every day. Coffee Republic Metro Center is right off the station escalator at 601 13th St NW, next to The Homer Building. If you ride the Metro to work, it doesn’t get much more convenient: walk up, order and keep moving. Neon signs and dark walls give it a look all its own if you’d rather stay a while.
What to order
Both cafés serve espresso done right, from cortados and flat whites to signature lattes like the Salty Dog (caramel and sea salt) and the Aztec Mocha (chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon and cayenne). Downtown mornings are busy. Order ahead for pickup at Franklin Park or Metro Center, or use the Coffee Republic app, and your drink will be ready when you walk in.
Hours
Franklin Park and Metro Center are open Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 6:30 am to 7:00 pm.
